Moi en Mieux: Breathlessly Late for the Willow Manor Ball
Oasis Feature: Moi en Mieux- Me but Better
What a perplexing dilemma! I ignored my invitation to attend Willow Manor's Annual Ball until this morning!
Suddenly, I'm in a fashion frenzy; I'm looking for appropriate party wear and trying on identities. I took inspiration from Clarika's song Moi en Mieux as I attempted to find a new kind of me to attend this most auspicious blogger event. (Thank you Lala Ema of My Castle in Spain for introducing me to this poetic and quirky musician.) Should I go as Marilyn Monroe? No a little too flirty! (What was I thinking?)
Or perhaps I might attempt to imbue-emote- express Grace Kelly's poised elegance?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What was I thinking???~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh Madame Grace- to reach those heights of style...sigh- alas and alack-not today. I need to be more grounded if I am to arrive on time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I know just the person who can take on the challenge of an out of sorts and tarty moi- our dear Miss Katherine Hepburn.
Oh yes, that is me elegantly splayed on the manor floor! (I hope Willow doesn't mind!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The effort of selecting identities can be exhausting! And wouldn't Katherine have the nerve to sit on the carpeted floor and just catch her breath! Indeed!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But now I've skipped ahead! I didn't tell you about my date dilemma.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who could I find on such late notice?(I RSVP-ed at number 70!)
Setting aside my married beau, I'm left with the two handsome standbys, dear Cary Grant and charming Jimmy Stewart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who will be my leading man?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now Mr. Grant can be romantically captivating
...but sometimes I just want to capture him! It's my independent streak, I'm sure.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That leaves Mr. Stewart...hum...so affable and lovable...but that incredibly cute pooka, Harvey,
just might want to tag along-and we all know how that turns out!
Of course you know that I arrived on my own! I loved the ball! And next time, I will remember to Répondez s'il vous plaît-er-rather- it will please me to respond much earlier!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here I am still in my alter-ego identity -
considering life and celebrity balls.
I must admit that I do so enjoy sitting here knitting and reflecting -until my next project!

Would you like to listen to Clarika? Here is a YouTube version of the singer and the song.
I'm off to see all of you blog party-goers at your version of the ball! (Click on Willow Manor link to view the lists of participants.)

I too was late to the ball - lost my glass slippers and had to go without. I quite agree about your choice of gown, the pleated silk is very chic and strikes the right note. Perhaps we'll meet up in the Eightsome Reel?
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Frances
I love the gown too. But what a dilemma!
ReplyDeleteI adore you in that gown, in all its pleated glory! Grab Cary Grant and get over here!
ReplyDeleteThe divine Katherine, knitting?
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made it to the ball!
Oh Cynthia, don't miss the ball, it's fantastic! Everyone who is anyone has arrived. I'll look for you.
ReplyDeleteCynthia.......I so hope you choose Grace Kelly's Gown ! Katherine is my favorite actress but you are a true Princess, so please choose Grace! OH....avoid Mr. Depp, I heard Willow is being very snippy about women who approach him!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteToo flirty??? Oh sweetheart, have you peeked in The Manor yet today...there is no such thing! Throw that Monroe gown on and hurry up....we're still going strong and there's talk of brunch in the morning...
ReplyDeleteCynthia! What fun. I love the pics you chose. Ahhh, what happened to old fashioned elegance? Women just don't dress like that anymore. Movie stars then were STARS! My favorite was def. Grace Kelly. I normally don't care for the ice blondes, but there was no one with her, well, grace, and she was always so spectacular. Anyway, what a fab idea for a ball---if I had to choose, I think I would have gone as Vivien Leigh. Not as her typical Scarlett O'Hara---but something classic that showed of her true beauty. Sometimes I watch old movies of hers and just gasp at her spectacular visage. Anyway, what a fun, uplifting post (as you always do produce) and thanks for a visual fiesta! xoxoxoxo--one of 365
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you chose Katharine. Her elegance - your elegance - was just what an occasion like the Manor Ball called for. Oh, and I see you brought Cary along, after all - The sight of you two dancing on the sofa was a little startling, but very funny. I hope you didn't hurt yourselves when the sofa fell over. You were both laughing so hard, I assumed you were okay. What a swell party that was!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. And sounds such fun choosing your look.
ReplyDeleteBut Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart, what a dilemma. Didn't Gregory Peck or David Niven want to go as well?
xx
Your reactions are hilarious! What a delight to be given all of this feedback. I had to go for comfort! No fun, I know but Katherine does hold her own...and she is both clever and creative. I like her outdoor routine, too. You know she swims nearly every day!? I think she aged extremely well...and lived through an early tragedy. I have to agree that Grace is the most elegant though! xx mwah! to you all!
ReplyDeleteI am afraid I could not attend the ball Cynthia but I wanted to tell you how lovely you looked...xv
ReplyDeleteOh I adore Katherine Hepburn and am so glad you picked that dress. I was very naughty - I went to the ball with Rupert Everett but then forgot to do my own post about it. I think that is not ball-etiquette at all.
ReplyDeleteLove the gown and the company. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWas headed out to dance the night away when my Knight in Shining Armor forbade me to leave his side...dinner at eight...think I'll stay around for the floor show!
ReplyDeleteSandi
Lovely outfit! I know you had a ball.
ReplyDeleteHiya, I'm just here from Susan's spot. I posted about her mantra this morning and then I read your comment above about All is Well, That is a phrase I use to quiet and center myself in fact it is the title of the wee painting on my avatar!
ReplyDeleteJust had to share:)
merci ! my friend for the lovely comment xo S & the Gang
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a wonderful time Cynthia, I'm sure you looked gorgeous! I had to pass but maybe next year?!
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
